If you want to use the new and improved guide and rules for 2024 - including the character builder, drag & drop, and skills such as weapon mastery - you have to use the new sheet to play. The 2014 sheet does not support the 2024 ruleset out of the box, so you’ll want to make sure to check out our new DnD 2024 character creation sheet that aligns with the 2024 player’s handbook.

The new character sheet and builder are available now within the Roll20 Tabletop and Roll20 Characters, with updates released regularly.

Partially, we are working on tools that will allow you to convert your current sheets to the new sheet. In the interim you are now able to play with both D&D 5E character sheets in one campaign, add the new sheet to your existing campaigns via the Character Sheets Settings in the Roll20 Tabletop sidebar.

The new character sheet and builder will be compatible with all D&D 5th edition sourcebooks and adventures, including the new D&D 2024 core rulebooks.

No, there are no plans to remove the existing character sheet from Roll20.

Both the 2014 and 2024 books will be within one compendium (similar to how Pathfinder 2e / Pathfinder 2e Core works), so you'll be able to access both in a campaign.

Yes! You'll be able to create characters using either ruleset with the new 2024 sheet and builder; you can even mix & match content across 2014 & 2024 sources!

We are working on tools to convert your characters from the old sheet to the new sheet, if it's desired, as some 2024 functionality will not work with the old sheet.

Yes! You'll be able to utilize 2014 items, weapons, monsters, feats, etc. with the 2024 sheet, and in some cases you'll get additional functionality if you use the new sheet. At the moment, only items work with drag & drop.

Some of the Roll20 team have gotten the chance to read advanced copies of the new Player’s Handbook. We think it is the biggest and best version of D&D ever made. (No really, we don’t have to be Mark Hamill promoting the Last Jedi.)

We have unlocked Mod Script & Macro capabilities within the new 2024 sheet, however existing Mods will not work out of the box. The team is working on updating the most popular scripts and will be providing documentation to the community on how they can uplift their own, if desired.

Yes! We have introduced an alternate “compact” layout of the Player Sheet for users that prefer a more condensed view. You can switch between the layouts via the “Manage Sheet” settings modal on the Player Sheet.

The 2024 Player's Handbook features optimized rules, new and improved character creation sections, expanded character options, and vibrant new illustrations. Key updates include a new weapon mastery system, revised ability score improvements, origin feats, updated fighting styles, streamlined design and improved layout, alphabetized rules glossary for easier reference, an expanded crafting system, focus points for certain classes, and new tools and equipment options.

Character creation in D&D 2024 offers more flexibility and options. Ability score improvements now come from backgrounds instead of species. Origin feats provide unique abilities tied to your character's backstory. There's an expanded selection of backgrounds and species, and new options for customizing your character's fighting style and weapon mastery. They updated starting equipment choices. And they revised rules for tool proficiencies.

The weapon mastery system adds depth to combat by giving each weapon a unique mastery property. As characters become proficient with weapons, they can use these properties to gain tactical advantages, deal extra damage, or perform special maneuvers.

Yes, all character classes have been refined based on fan feedback. Some notable changes include: updated subclass options, revised class features like Extra Attack and Stunning Strike, new options for martial characters, improvements to spellcasting classes, and adjustments to the Beast Master ranger and other subclasses.
